NZME began its journey in the media and entertainment industry as the publisher of Auckland's first newspaper in 1863. At the time of commencing the project NZME were celebrating 150 years in their current location. From their beginnings as a newspaper in 1863 our client has grown into a media and entertainment giant, owning and operating 85 brands across radio stations, newspaper mast-heads and online businesses.

Our brief was to develop a workplace and workstyle to enable the merging of all the business and cultures from the current day 28,000 sqm across multiple sites into 8,500 sqm of real estate, accommodating under one roof journalists, easy listening and heavy metal radio stations, emerging digital businesses and corporate offices.

This award winning interior combined NZME’s three core businesses of radio, newspaper and digital into one integrated presence. Each radio brand was allocated prime exterior-facing locations to engage with their audience. The ground floor Live Lounge performance space blends from the vibrant reception out to the landscaped courtyard via glazed folding walls. A new cost-effective linear workstation and storage system was developed to allow focused work, while generous social cafe areas were created around the central atrium to promote collaboration. The company’s brand is subtly threaded through the fitout from the diagonal carpet design to the staff-inspired glazing graphics.
